This home was once a one-floor cottage of just 900 square feet.

A round kitchen opens to the dining room and the living room, with French doors that open to a stone patio facing the Hammonasset River. Elements of the outdoors were brought inside with rough stone at the fireplace, twig pulls on cabinets and natural wood throughout the house. The kitchen cabinets were created of cherry with birch center panels and the floor is birch with cherry inlays. These two kinds of wood were chosen for their contrasting colors yet similar grain patterns. The second and third-floor bedrooms are flooded with outdoor light from abundant windows and a central skylight. Our company’s belief in the resourceful use of space is evident on the upper levels where five efficient bedrooms were created. Although still a small footprint, this home regularly hosts parties of 50 or more people with ease.
